A green smoothie is simply a smoothie with an added handful of greens. The greens are typically dark green leafy vegetables. These types of greens are packed with nutrition, and have very few calories
Why Drink Green Smoothies?
I personally drink green smoothies because I love fresh foods. I eat tons of fruit and vegetables, and don’t drink a lot of sugary drinks. The smoothies help kill my cravings for sodas and juices, while giving me a much more nutritious alternative. I actually just had some Sprite at a restaurant yesterday, and if given the choice between my green smoothies and sprite, I would take the smoothie every time.
If you are not a frequent consumer of fresh foods, but have a problem with acne, weight, are sick, or just aren’t feeling energetic, then smoothies can be of great benefit to you. Can’t I Just Eat a Salad?
A salad will provide many of the exact same nutrients as a green smoothie. There are, however, a few benefits of drinking a green smoothie rather than eating a salad. The first thing is portability. If you are going for a bike ride, driving to work, fishing with your buddies, or doing basically anything ‘on the go’, a green smoothie made in advance and carried in an eco-friendly bottle is going to be much more convenient than a salad. Another reason to choose a smoothie over a salad is the fact that the fruit in smoothie can mask a lot of the taste of the greens used in green smoothies. If you don’t like to eat spinach, you may find that you are able to eat a fair amount of it in a properly proportioned smoothie.
