If you’ve been searching the internet for foods that are good for acne, healing foods, weight loss foods, etc, you may have stumbled across green smoothies. So what exactly is a green smoothie? A green smoothie is a drink that typically, at a minimum, consists of some fruit, water, and some green leafy vegetables. When blended in a blender, the green leafy vegetables give the drink a green color. With mixtures of certain fruits (berries especially), a green smoothie may end up looking brown. It is still called a ‘green’ smoothie though, because of the greens.

Making green smoothies in advance is a great way to make sure that you are enjoying all the benefits of green smoothies, without the hassle of preparing them once or even several times per day. Green smoothies are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be prepared in advance and kept for up to 2 days.

Tips for Preparing Green Smoothies in Advance

While your green smoothie will taste good for up to 2 days after initially preparing it, I recommend drinking it within 24 hours. I normally drink one blender full of green smoothie per day; half in the morning on the way to work, and half when I get home from work. I do this for several reasons; first, I get a generous amount of smoothie per day, second, I only spend about 8 minutes to prepare and clean up the entire thing, and last, because I do this daily, my afternoon smoothie is very fresh.

If you’ve been searching the internet for ways to live a healthier lifestyle, there is a chance that you have seen someone mention green smoothies. A regular fruit smoothie is normally made with just fruit. Green Smoothies are pretty much the exact same thing, except there are greens (normally cruciferous greens) blended with the fruit.

Blended Greens? That sounds gross!

Trust me, I had the exact same reaction when I first stumbled upon a green smoothie forum post. The truth is, though, if you use a good recipe and a mild green like spinach, you won’t even taste the greens. This is great, because you will get all the nutritional benefits that come with the greens, without the taste.
